Breaking down the cards
My main goal for this project was to successfully design cards that were balanced and felt like they would fit right into Marvel SNAP! as well as to accurately recreate the card art featured in the game. This involved studying the variety of cards featured in the game and how the art featured varies between them. I also looked at a lot of behind-the-scenes footage of the cards in engine to see how the game achieved its unique parallax effect with the card art.
Designing The Abilities
Marvel SNAP features several different keywords encouraging specific decks and playstyles. My goal when designing these cards was to create new cards that not only fit into these groups but also would be engaging and practical in the live game.
Upgrading Cards
Marvel SNAP's main progression system is upgrading cards to unlock infinity splits. Infinity Splits are one of the most exciting parts of Marvel Snap for collectors and players. They offer a unique way to get a personal collection, and bling out the decks you play with artistic styles, glitz and glam and other options as you play. They're several different effects you can earn from this system, mainly card background effects.
Reflection
This project was an invaluable learning opportunity as I was able to successfully analyze and break down the techniques used by Second Dinner for the cards in Marvel SNAP. This also was my first experience designing abilities for a card game which provided a strong learning experience on the intricacies of balancing behind card games.
