A New Launch
Utah Games Launch is the annual showcase of all the student projects made throughout the school year for both graduate and undergraduate students. This event is significant for students, as it is not only the first time most people are seeing these projects, such as industry members, friends and family. Our biggest goals for this year's Launch were to update the event's look and branding to be more cohesive, as well as create a smoother and higher-quality showcase that better reflects the amount of work everyone put into these projects.
Managing the Chaos
A significant part of my responsibilities for this event was to manage the broadcast schedule and crew, ensuring it ran smoothly and we delivered the best possible product to the viewers and students involved. Due to the scale of the event, chaos and problems were expected, so it was important to plan around this to ensure it went as smoothly as possible.
This was the largest team I had ever helped coordinate, which provided many new challenges for me. The key to success for this was making sure everyone, regardless of role, experience or knowledge, was on the same page and could play their part successfully.
This was a very ambitious overhaul for the event compared to previous iterations. The event was met with positive reactions and we successfully met all the goals we had for the new and improved Utah Games Launch. It also helped spark new ideas for where to go next in creating the best games showcase we could put on at the University of Utah.
